Three ways to get started

Hello. My name is Kim and I would love to teach you how to sing! I have a background in opera, musical theater, and sacred music, so I am familiar with a wide range of music and will gladly teach to your musical preferences. My singing career began as a choir member and church soloist at the fresh young age of 6, and since then has progressed to encompass musical theater and opera. I have been involved in over 25 musicals, in lead roles, as music director, and as an ensemble member. The shows I directed included "Footloose", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", and "Kids on Broadway". I instructed 12-60 students at a time, who ranged from ages 8-22. Most recently, my studying and performing has been primarily in opera. I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Gordon College, and am currently working on a Master of Music in Opera at the Longy School of Music. I also sing at a half dozen churches in the area.
Lessons with me are a focused time of vocal exploration and discovery. I am detail oriented and patient. I approach any given vocal issue from as many angles as is necessary for you, the student, to really understand a concept. I have a three-fold approach of building strength in your body, your breath, and your voice. As a singer, your body is your instrument, so you can expect a very holistic experience in a lesson with me! I also want you to become as confident and smart as possible as a performer, so I will also help you gain some facility in reading music. If your goal is to audition for musical events, I want to enable you to not only develop a powerful voice, but also be expressive, and have the tools to teach yourself new music. I will teach any style of music, but please note that I will not teach belting technique. My approach is classical - I will develop freedom and beauty in your voice. I am interested in teaching singers of any experience level. I have worked with novices both young and old as well as college students pursuing music degrees. Studying with me will be fun, organized, and produce results. I hope to see you in the studio!
I teach classical/bel canto technique. I am willing to teach any style of music, but I will NOT teach belting technique. My areas of specialty are classical music (opera and art song), Broadway, and sacred music.
