I've been playing the guitar for over 10 years now, and teaching for over a year in my spare time. I've developed a knowledge of music theory from classes at UT and my own independent studies. I've also played in a couple of bands as the primary song writer and have a lot of experience working with other musicians. I've attended the University of Tennessee with a major in pre pharmacy and German. About a year and a half ago I decided I had to persue my true passion: music. So I'm currently seeking enrollment at Berklee's College of Music and a few other schools to get a degree in music production and engineering. Music is my greatest passion. I hope that some of my students see this in me, are inspired by it, and perhaps feed off it for their own musical goals.
Don't expect that you'll be able to pick the guitar up and play it easily within a few weeks. It takes time to build dexterity, finger strength, and the finesse required for smoothe and beautiful guitar melodies (even brutal rock and metal riffs!). So I generally start out with exercises that will help you become familiar with the guitar. These exercises may range from simple hammer-ons and pull-offs to coils and other expanded scales. A little time is put into this during each lesson. I also help my students tackle songs they want to learn or teach them easy guitar riffs/melodies or songs I think they can handle. Overall, expect to work just enough at playing the guitar to have fun with it but advance your abilities at the same time.
I mainly play progressive rock guitar, but there is a classical feel to my playing. I have a very wide range of musical tastes, but I primarily like modern rock, progressive rock, classical music, jazz/blues, nu-metal, and the new eclectic/epic rock sound thats coming out.
