About Me

Nicolas is a flutist originally from Caracas, Venezuela, where he has been active in chamber music, orchestra, and teaching. Nicolas is a former flute player at the “Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela”, which he participated in all the tours to Europe, Japan, and Latin America. Moreover, he performed in most of the Dorian Label CD recording series under Eduardo Mata conducting, and other Latin American conductors. In the chamber music field, he was founder member of the “Duo Real-Peña” (Flute and Piano), “Paul Desenne Ensemble” (Venezuelan music ensemble), “National Flute Orchestra of Venezuela”, and “Miquirebo-Venezuelan Flute Quartet”.

For the last ten years, Nicolas has also developed an important activity as an arranger and composer for flute ensembles, his arrangements and compositions have been performed by the most reputable flute ensembles in Venezuela and USA.

In September 2001, he won a position at the Midland Symphony Orchestra in Michigan to perform in the 2001-2003 seasons. In February 2002, Nicolas was the winner of the Central Michigan University Symphony Orchestra “Concerto-Aria Competition”. In August 2002, he also was the winner of the “ Performer Convention Competition” at the National Flute Association Convention, Washington D.C. 2002.

The same year, he did a debut at the Hirshhorn Hall at the Smithsonian Museum.Mr. R. holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Flute Performance (1991) from The University Institute of Musical Studies (IUDEM) in Caracas-Venezuela, where he studied with José García and José Antonio Naranjo, and a Master of Music Degree in Flute Performance (2003) from Central Michigan University, where he studied with Joanna White and Jeff Zook.

Currently, Nicolás is pursuing for the DMA in Flute Performance at Temple University with Professor David Cramer, Associate Principal Flute of The Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2006, Nicolas was appointed as the Music Director and the Flute Teacher at the Doral Conservatory and School of the Arts in Miami.

Lesson Details

Regarding my teaching style, it is based on a combination of a solid technical daily routine and a fine selection of musical works, which are design to fit into the corresponding student level.
