I have been playing the Bagpipes since I was 8 years old and have played with two bands, a local community band and a competition band, competing and playing professionally for the last 25 years. Many of my students have won medals in solo competition and have played alongside myself with bands like the World Famous Chieftan's. Recently, during the pandemic, my students have placed 1st and 3rd in the World Online Bagpipe and Drumming Competition! My key instructors have been Sandy Jones, Michel D'avenas and Jori Chisholm, all of whom are renowned pipers and Pipe Majors. I enjoy teaching and have a very patient and gentle style with students. I have taught mature adults and younger students, some with learning disabilities in reading, successfully teaching them to sight read and play fluently and master the bagpipes. I have also taught students with Aspergers with very successful outcomes. Most of my mature students and young students play with competition Pipe Bands now, whereas initially, they had no background in music. I love to help students achieve their goal in piping whether it is to play for their own enjoyment or to compete or participate in a pipe band. Your goal is my goal! It's never too late to be the Bagpiper you always wanted to be!!!

Catherine is very passionate about teaching bagpipes. Easy to get along with and very patient. She is very good at listening to me play and hearing what I'm doing wrong. Then we slow it down and fix things.

Catherine is gentle, patient and knowledgeable. She explains clearly and is so encouraging. Thirty minutes is a perfect lesson length for me, a complete beginner. I’m looking forward to my next lesson!
