Hello, my name is Leann. When I was 5 years old, I started my piano training in classical and jazz piano. I studied Jazz and Pop Piano at the Post Modern Music Dept. at the very famous Kyung Hee University (in South Korea). This is the same school that produced pop stars like Rain, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, Primary, Big Bang’s GD and Daesung, TVXQ’s Yunho and Yoochon to name a few. Since I was in College, I’ve been teaching pop and jazz piano to a variety of students, from beginner to the experienced, at all age levels. I understand every student is not the same, so I make it a priority to adapt my teaching style to match a person’s learning style to maximize the learning session. While providing lessons to a variety of students, I joined multiple bands and jazz groups playing various genres such as, alternative rock, hip-hop, pop, and fusion. In these groups, I played piano concerts, played for various video projects, and also multiple studio recordings. After I graduated with my Bachelors, I wanted to develop my music knowledge as a jazz composer. Therefore, I prepared and studied hard, and was admitted to the very competitive University of Miami Studio Jazz Writing program which is top 3 in nation for music programs. Since then, I’ve made Miami my home. In addition to playing music, I have been teaching Korean to UM students in their Direct Independent Language Studies program. In Miami, my music creativity has grown and I have met amazing musicians. From 2011 to the present, I have arranged, composed, and continue to perform in various fields. I believe my various experiences will help me teach you to learn the piano in any style you choose. Doesn’t matter who you are, what your experiences are, I will guide you to learn the piano, whether it be for professional reasons or recreationally.

I've been taking Korean lessons with Hyojung for about 7 months now. I started with the 30 minute time slot but am very glad I made the decision to bump it up to a full hour. I could just as easily go through the TTMIK curriculum myself without paying money every week; the custom lesson material doesn't really stray that far from the books. Realistically, what I'm paying for is time with a native Korean who can offer insights, stories, etc. and review my work for me. That is invaluable to me which is why I've continued to drop $$$ on this website. You can watch all the YouTube videos you want, but nothing can really replace a live conversation. As for Hyojung herself, she is super friendly and easy to work with. I didn't really do much window shopping on takelessons (or any other site) before committing, so I feel like I got lucky with getting such a great teacher. Despite the blurb above about the course content, I do want to make a special mention of Hyojung's truly custom homework. Occasionally when I'm struggling with a concept or particle, she will send me a supplementary assignment to do in addition to the regular homework that helps reinforce the idea. The only complaint I have is that the online lesson experience via webcam can be a bit of a pain, but that's not Hyojung's fault at all. Just something to keep in mind if you're considering signing up. The takelessons site is pretty bad (meetings and even this review system don't work in non-Chrome browsers) and the calls are subject to random 10-second lag.
