Many Irvine schools offer the opportunity for students to perform in talent shows, musical theatre, choruses and bands. I always encourage my students to participate in the community because it provides a goal to achieve and also builds self confidence, creativity, and self expression.
Lately, I have started to record some of my students playing piano because it gives them instant feedback on how they look and sound, and gives us a strong starting point. One example is an eight year old student who was preparing to play solo at a recital. Previously, he had only played duets with me on stage so he was experiencing some stage fright about playing alone. I recorded him at home playing his piece, and coached him about his presentation of bowing, adjusting the piano bench if necessary, and taking a moment to collect himself before he started to play. I encouraged him to think about what the music meant to him and to keep playing if he made a mistake. He performed beautifully. Even though he made one mistake, it was hardly noticeable because he kept playing and didn’t get flustered.
Our city is conducive to learning and creativity, so take advantage of what we have to offer by checking out piano lessons in Irvine! Get inspired and become absorbed in the gift of music!
