Hello! My name is Zeynep and I am a Turkish-American violinist, educator, and am currently on faculty at the New York Philharmonic and the Orchestra of St. Lukes. I am open for new students both in person and online. I welcome all levels from beginner through advanced. 

Below is my experience. Please reach out for any questions you may have. I look forward to teaching you violin and helping you reach your musical goals! 

I work with education programs at the New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Lukes, the Juilliard School, Bilkent University, Stony Brook University, the Nord Anglia International School in New York, the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the New York City Department of Education, Point CounterPoint, and PBS (WNET).

I am a graduate of the Juilliard School (B.M. and M.M.) and am currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Stony Brook University.  

I am a dedicated and passionate teacher. I help all my students find their own unique musical voice and musicianship. Every student learns in their own way, has their own needs and their own goals. As a goal-oriented teacher, I make sure to tailor each lesson to meet all the student's specific needs in order to help and guide them in becoming the best musician that they can be!

                                  -- Zeynep A Biography -- 

Turkish-American violinist, Zeynep A , started studying the
violin at the age of 5 as part of her music therapy treatment for
her diagnosis of speech delay and Auditory Processing Disorder.
Immediately after being introduced to the violin, Zeynep began
to speak and following a year and a half of violin studies, she
had her first solo appearance with Vivaldi’s A minor Violin
Concerto, after winning the Peabody Concerto Competition.

As a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Zeynep has
appeared in a myriad of venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal
Albert Hall, and the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. She has
performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Istanbul State
Symphony Orchestra, the National Philharmonic, the Aspen
Music Festival and School and the Juilliard Orchestra. She has
also performed as a soloist at the Turkish American Women
Leadership Event on Capitol Hill as well as at the Focus Festival:
On the Air! at Lincoln Center.

Zeynep co-founded the Turkish-American Cultural Laboratory (TACL), which brings together and integrates the Turkish and American cultures through the arts. As director of this organization, Zeynep produces a multitude of events including workshops in public schools in NYC and Istanbul, commissioning new works by American and Turkish composers, and inter-disciplinary performances in the US and Turkey. Future projects include partnering with Bilkent University for an Academy for young musicians and composers in August 2020. TACL is proud to be
sponsored by Turkish Airlines.

With a passion for teaching, Zeynep is also a New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist and a Morse Teaching Artist partnering with New York City Schools. She also leads the String Ensemble program at the Nord Anglia International School New York, is a teacher and mentor at the Music Advancement Program at the Juilliard
School, and is on faculty at the NY Department of Education and Lincoln Center’s Audition Boot Camp.

Community outreach and service is an integral part of Zeynep’s musical life. In 2013, Zeynep co-founded the group Sonatas Stopping Starvation where she organized and ran food drives, benefit concerts and has partnered with food banks all over New York. Zeynep was also awarded the Gluck Community Service Fellowship where she played in various health care facilities in New York.

Zeynep is the first prize winner in many competitions, some of which include the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Dorothy DeLay Competition and the National Philharmonic Competition. In 2015, Zeynep was awarded the Ataturk Youth Achievement Award by the Ataturk Society of America. Since 2017, Zeynep has been a violinist of The Montclair Orchestra. Zeynep is a graduate of the Juilliard School under the Ahmet Ertegun Scholarship (B.M. ‘17, M.M. ‘19) and will be pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University. 

Aside from music, Zeynep enjoys taking business classes at Columbia University through the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program, drinking tea, biking, and being an avid dog lover.

The Music Advancement Program is a Saturday instrument instruction program for intermediate students from New York City’s five boroughs and the tristate area who exhibit great musical potential. The program actively seeks students from diverse backgrounds underrepresented in the classical music field and is committed to enrolling the most talented and deserving students regardless of their financial background. Through a comprehensive curriculum, performance opportunities, and summer study partnerships, MAP students gain the necessary skills to pursue advanced music studies while developing their talents as artists, leaders, and global citizens. The Music Advancement Program is administered by Juilliard's Office of Community Engagement.

Music Advancement Program Teaching Fellow

The Morse Teaching Artist Fellowship provides training to Juilliard students in both aesthetic education and skills-based instruction for grades 2 through 12. The Morse Teaching Artist Fellowship is designed to help Juilliard students gain valuable experience and increase their flexibility as future teaching artists. Juilliard students that are considering a career as a professional teaching artist or that wish to teach music in a classroom setting are strongly encouraged to apply.

The P.A.L.S. program identifies and develops musically gifted and motivated musicians in the Roaring Fork Valley and offers them focused lessons during the summer, along with music education-specific activities and exclusive access to the Aspen Music Festival and School's summer programming. P.A.L.S. events are scheduled throughout the summer to ensure that students are able to find events that work within their summer schedules.

Audition Boot Camp is a free two-week arts program for New York City public school students entering eighth grade. The program helps students prepare for the audition and screening process required by New York City's screened high school arts schools and programs. The program accepts up to 350 students. The 2019 program will run from August 5–16, 2019 at Lincoln Center Education in Manhattan.

Zeynep was excellent at analyzing my technique, understanding what I was trying to achieve, and giving me really good exercises and analogies to help me learn. I found I didn't know what staccato was all about, and that was what I needed to master for the songs I want to play.  Zeynep lead me to exactly what I needed. Can't recommend her enough.

This was my first lesson with Zeynep. I have had several Tutors over the past 4 years. Zeynep was ready for my arrival. She was friendly, yet very professional. She watched me play a short piece and was able to discern from that where I needed help. Zeynep was able to give me new tips on bowing and finger placement. I am certainly looking forward to my next a Lesson with Zeynep.

My daughter had the pleasure of taking lessons with Zeynep this past summer in the PALS program in Aspen. She loved each week when it was lesson time.  This is what Addison had to say, "She always would say the area I needed to work on nicely. I loved that she gave me knew things to learn at each lesson.  If I didn't understand, she would keep encouraging me until I did."  This was an excellent experience!

A unique and special experience! My daughter always looked forward to her sessions with Zeynep.  She has been her mentor for the past two summers at the PALS program.  Once after a lesson my daughter told me that she was surprised how much better she played the song after her session with Zeynep.  I love the way Zeynep engages with my daughter and brings out the best in her.

Zeynep was my teacher for the PALS summer program in Aspen. Her positive attitude made my weekly lesson enjoyable. My playing improved greatly during my summer with her. She helped me become a stronger player. Watching her perform in the orchestra was inspiring.

My 8 year old daughter participated in  the Aspen Music Festival PALS program last summer and was paired up with Zeynep as a violin instructor.  She was an amazing teacher and great with the kids.  She is so sweet and incredibly talented.  We were privileged to see her perform at the music festival and it was jaw dropping.  I definitely recommend Zeynep to anyone looking for violin instruction.
