Getting Inspired to Learn French in Columbus

When you listen to someone speaking French, it can inspire you to really learn the language. Watching movies in French is nice, but it isn’t the same as interacting with someone who is speaking it. If you are taking French lessons in Columbus, there are several ways for you to not only get inspired, but to have a chance to actually talk in French. Because most people feel a little self-conscious about speaking a second language, keep in mind that people who are native French speakers are more than happy to have a chance to talk in their native tongue.

French Cuisine and Conversation

There is nothing quite like enjoying French food to get you in the mood to speak French. There are several locations where you can use what you learn during your French lessons in Columbus. Learning the names of food and how to order is one of the things that most students learn early on, so now you have a way to practice outside of your lessons.

  • La Chatelelaine is a bakery, bistro, and bar, so you can get a different atmosphere depending on which part you visit. In this family-owned and operated business, enjoy some French cuisine and the friendly bar setting. Make sure to place your order in French for a more authentic experience.
  • L’Appât was started by a man who moved from to the U.S. from Benin, a former French colony, that has a a mix of French and African influences in its local cuisine. The restaurant is a small, intimate setting - similar to what you would find in a typical French café.
Columbus French Meetup

If you want to spend time conversing about different topics in French, the Columbus French Language Meetup Group gets together once a month to talk about the culture and to converse in French. No matter what level you are at, you are welcome to join and work on what you last learned in your French lessons in Columbus.

The Columbus Language Exchange

If you would like a more focused approach to learning French, where you can talk one-on-one with someone outside of your language lessons, the Columbus Language Exchange helps people identify native speakers of foreign languages, including French, who are looking to improve their English. You can communicate with them through email, texts, voice chats, or you can meet with them face to face. It’s a great way to get a more personalized approach when learning the language, without feeling as self-conscious as you might in a restaurant or in a group.

Learning a language really requires that you practice speaking it. When you are first getting started with your French lessons in Columbus, you should look for opportunities to practice outside of your lessons. This will help you improve your speaking and writing skills as you interact with others.
